Auto/fixed Tuned Harmonic Filter. Harmonic filters consist of
capacitors connected in series with reactor. The capacitors produce
reactive power at the filter's fundamental frequency. A typical
harmonic fiIter consists of three series resonant circuits tuned to the
most common harmonics (5th, 7th & 11th harmonics). Harmonic filters
are custom designed for each application using standard components.
This ensures that the best possible power factor correction and
filtering characteristics are achieved with a reasonable investment.
This will help in reducing the total harmonic distortion in the system
as per relevant standards like IEEES /9.

- tuned fiIters are designed to be used for power factor correction in
systems where harmonics are generated by nonlinear loads, each step of
a de - tuned filters consists of a capacitor and low loss reactor
connected in series. These two form a series resonant circuit tuned at
a frequency below the lowest harmonic frequency present in the system
normally the 5th (250Hz). De - tuned filter also removes lower order
harmonics from the system to some extent. This helps to offset the
resonance effect for longer trouble free operation.

active filter is installed in parallel with the loads that generate the
harmonics. It analyses the harmonic current generated by these
nonlinear loads and the entire spectrum from the 2nd to the 25th
harmonic or a specially targeted harmonic. This neutralizes the
corresponding harmonic currents completely at the point of connection.
This device consists of one filter for each phase so that even highly
asymmetric harmonic pollution can be suppressed, as well as the 3rd,
9th and l5th harmonics, which add together arithmetically in the
neutral conductor.
